Substance Abuse & Dermatological Conditions
This piece was very fun for me, as the I had creative freedom to take the work in whichever direction I thought would be visually interesting and memorable… so, of course I did some ultra detailed, hires skin textures in photoshop, using some homebrewed graphic fx along with various photo texture layering and blending techniques.
I aimed to have each condition hold an element of realism, while also appearing slightly surreal and even cartoonish, almost like soething you would see in an old grotesque Ren & Stimpy still frame… because, after all, this piece was intended to serve as a warning to the effects of substance abuse on skin; it had to look bad and make you uncomfortable!
The piece was one of several informational long forms works I have put together in the drug rehab space, each one having there own unique topical theme and stylistic gimmick, built to share and garner traffic and help line calls. The piece was originally built only with Desktop in mind, but was later repurposed slightly for an MVP mobile version by the development team. I not only provided all production assets for the project, but led meetings and provided documentation on how the piece was to be built and function for the end user.
